KLM Flight Change Fee in 2026: The Cost by Cabin and Fare
KLM publishes a real fee table — but it changes depending on whether you’re in Economy, Premium Comfort, or Business, not just your fare name. Here’s the full breakdown.
Available 24/7 · Independent agency — not affiliated with KLM
Quick Answer
KLM’s change fee depends on both your cabin and fare type. In Economy, a Light ticket runs around €200 to change (and isn’t changeable at all on some Europe-to-North America routes), Standard also runs around €200, and Flex changes for free. Premium Comfort Standard runs around €250; Business Light runs around €300. A fare difference applies in every case. Basic fares (where offered) can’t be changed at all. Not sure which combination applies to you? Call +1 (877) 770-0880 and we’ll check it.
The Fee Table by Cabin and Fare
KLM’s change fee is set per cabin and per fare tier within that cabin — Economy Light isn’t priced the same as Business Light, and Flex is always free regardless of cabin:
| Cabin / Fare | Change Fee |
|---|---|
| Economy Light | ~€200 + fare diff. (not changeable on some Europe→North America routes) |
| Economy Standard | ~€200 + fare difference |
| Economy Flex | Free + fare difference |
| Premium Comfort Standard | ~€250 + fare difference |
| Premium Comfort Flex | Free + fare difference |
| Business Light | ~€300 + fare difference |
| Business Standard | Per specific ticket conditions + fare difference |
| Business Flex | Free + fare difference |
Fees are charged in your local currency and can vary slightly by exact route — always confirm the figure shown in My Trip for your specific booking.
Basic Fares: No Changes, Period
On routes where KLM offers a Basic fare tier, it cannot be changed at all and is non-refundable outside the 24-hour window. If you need to move your travel dates on a Basic ticket, your option is generally to cancel (forfeiting most of the ticket value) and rebook separately, or check whether the route qualifies for Change&Fly.
The Change&Fly Add-On
For travelers on a Basic or Light fare who want a safety net, KLM offers a Change&Fly add-on at booking — a smaller prepaid fee that unlocks one change to your itinerary up to 14 days before departure, instead of paying the full standard change fee later. It only covers one change; after that, standard fare rules apply.
The 24-Hour Rule
For flights to or from the U.S. or Canada, you can change or cancel any fare type, including Basic and Light, free of charge within 24 hours of booking, as long as you booked at least 7 days before departure. It’s available regardless of fare conditions and is your one universal free option.
Same-Day Flexibility — Flex Fares Only
If you’re on a Flex ticket and there’s seat availability, you can switch to an earlier or later flight on the same day without an extra charge. Light and Standard fares don’t get this same-day flexibility — same-day changes on those fares follow the regular fee table above, where changes are even permitted.
Step-by-Step: How to Change a KLM Flight
Your exact ticket conditions, including the applicable change fee, are shown there.
The fee table above varies by both, so don’t assume Economy pricing applies to a Premium Comfort or Business ticket.
Agency bookings need to go through the original seller, and Basic fares may have no self-service path at all. Call +1 (877) 770-0880 and we’ll check your real options.
When It’s Worth Calling Instead
KLM’s per-cabin fee table is more transparent than some carriers, but it’s also easy to misread if you’re comparing your Premium Comfort ticket against an Economy fee you saw online, or assuming a Basic fare has the same flexibility as Light. The route exception on Economy Light (Europe to North America) is another common surprise.
